The Director of Data Science and Engineering for the US Digital Service – which Elon Musk Herbenut Herbenut has – resigned from her post.
Anne Marshall, the now former director, spent more than a decade as an engineer at Amazon before joining USDs in September 2023. In December, she was promoted to director of data science and engineering, but only served for about two months before resigning Wednesday.
‘Today I resigned from the US digital service. It was the greatest privilege of my life to be able to do this work with this team of incredible people, ā€¯Marshall wrote on Linkedin on Wednesday night. ‘Unfortunately, Last week, Doge chose to fire one -third of it. These tracks were short -sighted, badly informed and indiscriminate. The government and the American population will be worse off the loss of these people. “
Yesterday, Legacy USDs employees met with two representatives of Doge to discuss the future of the organization, after the Friday night fire of about 50 product managers, designers and others at USDS. Amy Gleason, a former USDS official from Trump, and Kendall Lindemann, formerly of McKinsey & Company, a management consultant firm, explained to the remaining staff members that, in the coming weeks and months, it would become increasingly practical, USDS -Sources say.
Gleason and Lindemann, who did not deliver their roles to Doge, said that someone who was not already terminated will be considered part of the Doge team and that the two previously separated teams would merge. The consolidation of the two different groups, the new doge members and the legacy -USDS staff, is a clear difference compared to the rest of the past month with the organization: Earlier this month, USDS workers told Wired that That’s a ‘firewall’ building has to separate the two groups. Until Tuesday, the only Doge representative to join a broader legacy team for the USDS team was Stephanie M. Holmes, who identified herself as the group’s new HR person.
“It’s all in the future,” one USDS source tells Wired.
Yet it is unclear who is legally running, and does not even know employees of Doge. Joshua Fisher, the Director of the White House’s Office of Administration, issued an affidavit on Monday in a lawsuit claiming that Musk, who has been the lead of Doge since the re -election of Trump, was not a formal ‘administrator’ not. Fisher described Musk’s role as nothing more than “senior adviser” for the president with “no greater authority than other senior advisers in the White House.”
USDS staff are also in the dark about leadership. Multiple legacy -usds employees tell Wired that they have no idea who the acting administrator is, despite the fact that they have requested their identity several times.
Neither Gleason nor Lindemann announced the names of USDS administrator or deputy administrator on Tuesday. The White House did not respond to requests for comments from Wired.
“I do not believe that Doge can continue to deliver the work of USDs, based on their actions so far,” Marshall wrote. “I leave for choice, no forks, no forced exits, just active, unhappy, away. This is not the mission I have come to serve. “
