If I ask The new Truth Social Ai Chatbot about navigation of bias in the media ecosystem, it gives what I consider to be a reasonable advice.
“Diversify your sources,” it responds. “Rely on news stores across the political spectrum, including those of both left-leaning and right-leaning perspectives.”
It is advice that the AI itself may not be to heart. For example, to come to the above answer, it calls five sources, four of which are Fox News articles. The fifth, inexplicable, is a 400-page report of US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Health and Human Services Division with the title “Treatment for Pediatric Gender Disphorie.”
Truth Social Owner Trump Media & Technology Group launched the Chatbot, called “Truth Search Ai,” on Wednesday. The bot is powered by confusion Ai, a search engine that answers questions using large language models and live web search. The company obtained investments from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former Coinbase CTO and influential investor Balaji Srinivasan.
In 2024, Wired published an article in which the confusion scraped parts of websites that developers did not want it to have access, contrary to the generally accepted web standard, known as the Robots Exclusion Protocol. It also tended to set up things showed a wired analysis.
While the AI of Portlexity from sources on the left and center, the Truth Search Ai version never cited a center or left-leaning source in dozens of tests performed by Wired. In fact, the chatbot highlighted only seven sources in total in response to my inquiries – Fox News, Fox Business, The Washington Times, The Epoch Times, Breitbart, Newsmax and Justthenews.com. It was true, even for innocent, not -political questions. If I ask the bot, “What is 30 times 30?” It obtained his response from a Fox business article called “Inflation Reduction Act estimated to cause deaths 30 times more than Covid.” Similar tests by Axios and the Verge also show this extreme bias towards conservative media.
“What you notice is a function known as” source choice “,” says Jesse Dwyer, representative of the complexity, when I ask for the truth, seek AI that draws exclusively from conservative sources. “Source selection can take a number of forms for a number of needs, of internal documentation within an organization, custom data sets, or, as you describe, domain filtration. It is their choice for their audience, and we are committed to the choice of developers and consumers.”
He adds that confusion “for any political reasons does not discriminate against any developers, and emphasizes that they“ do not claim that their AI is 100 percent accurate. “
The truth seek, however, seems to deny his own apparent prejudice. “I have information from leftist, centristic and right news stores, depending on the nature of the user’s query and what sources are returned in the search results,” it states. “My answers are designed to critically analyze and synthesize information from all credible perspectives to ensure accuracy and balance.” This answer was obtained from five Fox business articles. (It seems the AI maximizes at five sources per response.)
