Not even employees of Doge know who is legally running on the

Before Trump was inaugurated, the USDS administrator was Mina Hsiang. After leaving, Ted Carstensen was the highest ranking of the USDS leader, but he resigned from the organization on February 6.

“After Ted resigned, we received no correspondence that was the head of this organization,” says a current USDs employee, who requested anonymity due to concerns about retaliation.

Some people who are wired spoke at USDS View Amy Gleason, a former USDs official, who served in the first Trump administration, as a liaison between legacy -SUSDs, Doge and other agencies, but few are known about her official role. Steve Davis, a long -standing Musk employee and the president of the boring company, is another name that has been claimed to have a lead. Davis has been working with Musk for years and leads the billionaire cost -saving efforts when he took over Twitter, now X in 2022. Davis went so far as to sleep in the Twitter headquarters with his wife, Nicole Hollander, and their child. (Hollander is now an official on general services for general services.)

“Steve Davis has always been articulated as the leader of Doge, but if I ask if he is the administrator, [managers] Suppose we don’t know, ”one former USDS employee tells Wired. “When I ask if he is the interim administrator, they say ‘we don’t know. “They said Brad Smith [a health care entrepreneur with ties to Davis] serves in a staffing role. ‘

While USDS staff are trying to find out who runs their agency, dozens of them have been fired. About 50 people from USDS’s approximately 200 employees were fired on Friday. Sources told Wired that product managers, designers and members of the talent team were hit hardest, along with some engineers.

‘No rhyme or reason. Literally in the middle of work, ”another source said of the Friday night fire. “There are so many of us.”

“I have heard that our directors at USDS (Legacy) have not yet received any kind of list or justification for the intention to terminate e -mails sent Friday night,” said another source at the agency.

Last week, several agencies were shocked by sudden dismissal. Dozens of employees of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection were fired after receiving emails barking their names and roles. Later in the week, the entire CFPB team that ended Big Tech’s command is terminated, a former CFPB official told Wired. After the CFPB fire, other agencies, including the General Services Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Education, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Transport, the Department of Energy, thousands of workers terminated .

The White House did not respond to several requests for comment.

While Musk’s Doge workers took over at USDs over the past month, very few legacy employees died with their new colleagues at all. Earlier this month, Wired reported that Doge built a ‘firewall’ that separates Musk’s team from the rest of the organization’s workforce. The only time Legacy staff had a meeting with a representative of Doge was on February 1 with Stephanie Holmes, who identified herself as the new HR person.

The only other experiences that had legacy-USDS staff with Doge staff were their surprise one-on-one interviews with incredible affiliate engineers who refused to identify themselves during the first week of the Trump administration.
